Carl Lewis – The Greatest Ever – turns 50



“This may sound funny but my goal is to be the best of all time”, quote from Carl Lewis, dated 1979
Lewis was at that time 18 and his international career had just begun. Eighteen years later and after having participated in four Olympics (84, 88, 92, 96) and three World championships (87, 91, 93,) we know that his dream has come true:
Lewis….
·         Won 10 Olympic medals: 9 gold and 1 silver
·         Won 10 medals in World Championships: 8 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze
·         Equalled or bettered world records in the 100 m (3x), longjump (indoors, 1x), 4x 100 m relay (3x)
·         His world record in the indoor long jump has stood since 1984
·         Won 65 successive long jump competitions over a period of ten years, 1981 through 1991
·         Was voted “Athlete of the Year, three successive years – 1982, 83, 84
·         voted "Sportsman of the Century" by the International Olympic Committee.
